A Friendly Safe Workplace for the Health of Employees
Occupational safety and health risk management to strengthen mental and physical wellbeing of employees
◢ There are four major health risk management programs 1) prevention and management of diseases incurred by abnormal workloads, 2) prevention of musculoskeletal hazards resulting from repetitive activities, 3) prevention and management of workplace harassments, and 4) protection and management of motherhood health. Since implementation of the 4 programs in Taiwan in 2016, the prevention and management of diseases incurred by abnormal workloads has been provided to 1,597 employees; 223 employees have participated in 9 sessions of training of the prevention of musculoskeletal hazards resulting from repetitive activities; and 364 employees have participated in 9 sessions of training of the prevention and management of workplace harassments.
◢ The protection and management of motherhood health, which focuses on occupational hazards to female employees’ motherhood health and also includes hazard assessment and control, physician interviews for guidance, and classified risk management, has been provided to 8 employees.
◢ An ad hoc team for the prevention and management of diseases incurred by abnormal workloads has been established at the Taichung site to prevent and decrease operational hazards resulting from steel roll packaging conducted by the site’s storage and transport section. Onsite observations conducted dynamically by the team based on operating procedures and assessment of hazard questionnaire survey findings have identified how to shorten the time of hands holding onto packaging machines along with replacement by lighter weight machines to reduce the weight on the hands of operators to achieve simple human factors engineering improvement.
◢ The steel rolling section at the Yenshui seeks to decrease the hazards related to assembly and transport. Onsite observations based on operating procedures and assessment of hazard questionnaire survey findings have incorporated human factors engineering into mechanical transport to decrease transport hazards as well as injuries from repetitive activities.
