TAIPEI, Taiwan, November 3, 2026 — As the global energy transition accelerates and the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) drives up electricity demand, securing a stable power supply while cutting carbon emissions has become a central priority for energy policymakers worldwide. Nuclear power is increasingly emerging as a key option that offers both low-carbon generation and supply resilience. To capture opportunities in the global nuclear industry and consolidate the resources and technical capabilities of Taiwan’s related supply chain, Walsin Lihwa Corporation today announced that it has partnered with Century Energy Co., Ltd., Kaori Heat Treatment Co., Ltd., and Tai Fung Trading Co., Ltd. to establish Walsin Century Nuclear System Co., Ltd. (“Walsin Century Nuclear System”). The partners held a signing ceremony today, marking a forward-looking move into the nuclear energy sector.
Walsin Century Nuclear System will integrate the technical expertise and industrial resources of its partners, leveraging their complementary strengths to advance supply chain collaboration and actively pursue market opportunities in Taiwan and abroad. Walsin Lihwa brings internationally certified nuclear-grade materials capabilities and a proven supply track record, offering high-end materials including stainless steel, nickel-based alloys, tubes and pipes, and nuclear-grade cables. Century Energy has cultivated one of Taiwan’s leading teams of certified welders through its participation in the localization of the offshore wind industry. With extensive port-side facilities and dedicated heavy-cargo terminals that support the manufacturing and export of large-scale equipment, the company has also introduced ASME certification and Authorized Inspection services for nuclear facility components manufacturing provided by TÜV Rheinland. Kaori Heat Treatment has long specialized in heat transfer and thermal-fluid technologies, as well as thermal management in high-temperature, high-pressure environments. With core capabilities in metal processing, precision manufacturing, and welding, it has accumulated extensive experience in developing and manufacturing power generation systems and high-end heat exchangers. Tai Fung Trading has deep roots in energy-related markets and is actively engaged in the nuclear industry.
Nuclear power is now widely recognized around the world as an indispensable energy source. With emerging technologies such as small modular reactors (SMRs) and micro modular reactors (MMRs) advancing rapidly, nuclear supply chain integration and the development of localized capabilities have become clear industry trends. Taiwan’s past nuclear power development has built a solid industrial foundation and technical expertise, and through renewed integration, the resources invested over the past six decades can continue to deliver value. Together with trusted partners, Walsin Lihwa is building a Taiwan-based nuclear industry alliance. Drawing on its nuclear certifications and its experience and track record in materials supply, Walsin Lihwa will help its joint venture partners and the new company establish comprehensive nuclear supply chain certifications, further integrating industrial and supply capabilities. This includes leveraging its UK subsidiary’s experience working with aerospace and nuclear leader Rolls-Royce to build manufacturing, assembly, and component supply capabilities for SMR/MMR-related equipment, as well as its long-standing record of supplying European nuclear power plants in cooperation with other leading European nuclear companies, to further expand opportunities in the international nuclear industry.
“The global energy transition is prompting countries to re-examine the role of nuclear power in building resilient energy systems,” said Yu-Lon Chiao, Chairman of Walsin Lihwa. “Taiwan has a comprehensive industrial base and strong manufacturing capabilities. By further integrating key capabilities in materials, equipment manufacturing, and engineering, Taiwan has the opportunity to take part in the development of the global nuclear industry. Through this collaboration, we look forward to working with our industry partners to build a more complete supply chain platform and jointly seize new opportunities in the energy industry of the future.”
“In the future, computing power will define national strength, and there is no computing power without electricity,” said Wen-Hsiang Lai, Chairman of Century Energy. “We must therefore pursue a more diversified power mix, with nuclear, wind, solar, and gas all serving as options for large-scale generation. The Century Group has strong welding technologies and a capable team. We will contribute our expertise and work hand in hand with all our partners at Walsin Century Nuclear System to actively develop the emerging SMR market and chart a new path to meet Taiwan’s electricity needs.”
“Global energy demand and supply patterns continue to evolve, creating new opportunities for energy technology innovation and broader applications,” said Chih-Hsyong Wu, Chairman of Kaori Heat Treatment. “In response to these industry shifts, Kaori will build on its long-established expertise in heat transfer, thermal-fluid, and thermal management technologies, as well as its precision manufacturing strengths, to actively position itself in next-generation energy markets. We believe long-term corporate growth comes from continuously deepening core capabilities and strategically extending existing technological strengths into emerging applications.”
Wu added, “Participating in the establishment of Walsin Century Nuclear System is an important step in Kaori’s expansion into next-generation energy applications. Going forward, we will continue to strengthen our technological capabilities, explore the application potential of new energy systems such as SMRs, and create new product and market opportunities that will inject fresh momentum into the company’s long-term growth.”
“Tai Fung Trading excels at organizing teams and leading them into international markets, bringing together the strengths of each member and leveraging our extensive global network to create opportunities and win business,” said Cheng-Shiang Hsu, President of Tai Fung Trading.
Following its establishment, Walsin Century Nuclear System will prioritize engagement with government authorities, research institutions, industry associations, and other relevant organizations to advance the development of the nuclear industry and supply chain collaboration. In its initial phase, the company will focus on developing overseas nuclear markets, supporting existing domestic demand for nuclear equipment and materials, and promoting its partners’ existing products and technologies. Over time, it will continue to pool resources from all parties to gradually build integration capabilities for nuclear equipment and systems. Drawing on nuclear experience and R&D accumulated in Taiwan and abroad, the company aims to develop MMR and SMR construction and assembly capabilities to compete in international markets, while preparing Taiwan’s manufacturing capabilities for next-generation small nuclear reactors. Backed by Taiwan’s comprehensive industrial base and deep manufacturing expertise, Walsin Century Nuclear System will seize market opportunities arising from the growth of the global nuclear industry and emerging technologies. It will serve as a key platform connecting Taiwan’s nuclear supply chain, fostering industrial integration and international alignment, and helping Taiwan build a complete, internationally competitive low-carbon energy industry chain.
